Pride Falls to Eastern Connecticut State, 73-61

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Despite holding an early lead, Regis College was defeated by Eastern Connecticut State University, 73-61, in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon.

The Pride offense struck just seconds after the beginning of the game with Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) making the first two layups of the game, bringing in the first four points. Just as the Warrior offense started to breakthrough with a jump shot from Taylor Salato, a turnover caused by Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I) brought the ball into Regis' possession, leading Doherty to a three-point shot assisted by Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.).

The Warriors gained offensive momentum in the second quarter, scoring 12 points, while Regis had eight. After Regis held an eight-point lead in the third quarter, Nevaeh Clark made a jump shot assisted from Kya Mayo putting Eastern Connecticut State in the lead, 41-40. The Pride defense was unable to adjust as Eastern Connecticut State outscored Regis for the remainder of the game.

Doherty led the Pride with 20 points and six assists to go along with five rebounds, while Zancan had 17 points, two assists, and 13 rebounds. Haley Lightbody (Reading, Mass.) was also a major contributor with nine points, three assists, and eight rebounds.

Salato led the Warriors, totaling 30 points with two assists and 11 rebounds. Cara McGettigan had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Clark finished with 13 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

The Pride (0-5) is scheduled to travel to Framingham State University on Tuesday, Nov. 21, for a 5:30 p.m. start.
