Regis Loses Non-Conference Game at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. - Regis College lost to WPI, 62-34, Tuesday night in a non-conference women's collegiate basketball game at Harrington Auditorium.

Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) led the Pride with 10 points, while Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) finished with seven points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Jillian Perry (Melrose, Mass.) contributed seven points in 16 minutes off the bench, but Regis struggled offensively during the night.

WPI (2-1) scored the first 12 points of the game, half of them from Ally McMorrow, before Perry hit a jumper with 3:36 remaining in the first quarter. Adrianna Niles hit a three-pointer in the final minute of the period to extend the WPI lead to 21-4.

Regis outscored the Engineers in the second quarter, 17-10, starting with a three-pointer by Perry and a traditional three-point play from Zancan. Striggles hit a three-pointer in the final seconds of the first half to bring the Pride within 10 points at 31-21, but WPI outscored Regis in the second half, 31-13, to pull away with the victory.

Niles notched a double-double as she led the Engineers with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while McMorrow finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Emmy Allyn shot 5-for-7 from the field to contribute 11 points as WPI hit 37.3 percent (25-for-67) of its field goal attempts and 77.8 percent (7-for-9) of its free throw opportunities.

Regis College (0-3) heads to Westfield State University for the Westfield Gas and Electric Tip-Off Tournament this weekend, first facing the host Westfield State Owls Friday, Nov. 17, at 5:30 p.m. The Pride will then face either Muhlenberg or Eastern Connecticut State Saturday, Nov. 18, at either 12 p.m. or 2 p.m.
