Women's Basketball Scores Season-High 92 Points in Victory over Dean

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College enjoyed its highest-scoring performance and its widest margin of victory of the year, defeating Dean College, 92-45, Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action at Higgins Court.

The win was a team effort as six Pride players achieved double-digit scoring totals. Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) led Regis with 13 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, while Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) and Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) added 12 points each with Gonzalez also finishing with five steals. Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.) scored 11 off the bench while Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) and Sophia Scarpa (Braintree, Mass.) both finished with 10 points. Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds, and five steals, while Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) scored eight points and also had eight rebounds.

Striggles hit a three at the start of the first quarter to begin a massive 26-0 scoring run for the Pride that saw six different players contribute, including six straight points by Doherty, a three-pointer by Gonzalez, and another three-pointer by Striggles before a free throw by Pacheco capped off the run. Thanks to a full-court press, the Pride managed to cause 13 turnovers and accumulate seven steals in the first quarter alone, setting up the home team with a 32-5 lead by the end of the period.

Dean improved upon its first-quarter performance, scoring 15 in the second quarter while the Pride still managed to outscore the visitors with 19 in the period, led by Striggles, Zancan, and Scarpa who each scored four points in the second quarter. Gonzalez's six third-quarter points helped extend the Pride's lead while the fourth quarter saw Regis outscore the Bulldogs, 24-14, with Zancan and Whalen each scoring five points in the period.

Regis shot 46.3 percent, going 38-for-82 from the field, while Dean went 18-for-42 for a 42.9 percent shooting performance. The Pride outrebounded the Bulldogs by a margin of 42-33 while accumulating a total of 22 steals for a massive 51 points off turnovers in the win over the GNAC rival.

Dean's leading scorer was Amani Pressley with 13 points and nine rebounds. Tori Viau added an additional 11 points while Caitlin Cooper and Carly Rettberg added six points apiece coming off the bench.

Regis College (4-9, 4-3 GNAC) begins a four-game stint of road games with a matchup against GNAC rival Lasell on Tuesday, January 17th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. while Dean hosts the University of Saint Joseph on the same day starting at 7:00 p.m.
