Pam Gonzalez Receives NEWBA Weekly Honor

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - For the second time this season, senior Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) has received recognition from the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) with placement on the weekly NEWBA Second Team, as announced by the regional organization Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Gonzalez averaged 20.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game last week against three of the top teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Last Tuesday at Rivier, in a battle between teams undefeated in league play entering the night, she shot 8-for-15 from the field and made all five of her free throw attempts to finish with 24 points along with 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Last Thursday night at GNAC South leader Albertus Magnus, Gonzalez notched her second consecutive double-double, finishing with 25 points and 15 rebounds as she played all 40 minutes against the Falcons. Saturday in a defensive battle against University of Saint Joseph, she collected 12 points, six rebounds, and six steals.

For the season, Gonzalez is fifth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding with 16.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She also leads the GNAC and is eighth in all of Division III in steals per game with 4.09 steals per contest. Gonzalez previously earned NEWBA weekly honors Nov. 23 after collecting 36 points and 16 rebounds at Wheaton Nov. 16.

Regis College continues its three-game homestand against Emmanuel College Wednesday, Jan. 11, starting at 7 p.m., followed by a home contest against Dean College Saturday, Jan. 14, beginning at 1 p.m.
