Regis Women's Hoop Loses at GNAC-Leading Emmanuel

BOSTON - After a promising first quarter, Regis College was unable to keep pace with Emmanuel College, losing to the Saints 71-46 Monday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball game at the Jean Yawkey Center.

Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) paved the way for the Pride, leading Regis with 16 points. Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) contributed a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and two blocks, while Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) added eight points and six rebounds and Arie Searcy (Santa Rosa, Calif.) finished the night with eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

After the opening quarter ended in a 16-16 tie, the Saints broke the game open in the second period with an 18-3 run, fueled by nine points from Caitlin Barker, to take a 34-19 lead with 2:46 to play in the first half. Emmanuel held the Pride to just seven points in the quarter to take a 39-23 lead into the halftime break.

Regis battled back in the third quarter, not allowing the hosts to pull away as Gonzalez scored nine points in the period to keep the visitors within striking distance. However, Jamad Fiin and Barker opened the final quarter with consecutive three-pointers to open up a 57-34 Saint lead, swinging all the momentum back to Emmanuel as the hosts coasted to their 10th consecutive victory.

Fiin led all scorers with 17 points on a 7-for-9 shooting performance from the field while adding a career-high six steals along with six boards and three assists. Barker finished with a season-high 14 points while Loredana D'Agostino chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Regis College (5-7, 4-2 GNAC) next heads to Newton, Mass., to face off against Lasell University Wednesday, Jan. 26, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
