SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Regis College freshman guard Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) has added another significant honor to her virtual trophy case, as she was voted All-Rookie First Team by the coaches of the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), announced Wednesday by the organization.
Gonzalez, the 2019-20 GNAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, started 23 of the 26 games she appeared in this season, leading the Pride with 13.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game, plus she dished out 3.0 assists per contest. She also posted the most double-digit scoring performances for Regis with 16, including four games with 20 or more points, and she notched seven double-doubles.
Gonzalez was named GNAC Rookie of the Week seven times across 14 weeks as well as NEWBA Rookie of the Week on three occasions. She capped the season by receiving All-Tournament honors after averaging 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 4.5 steals per game during the GNAC playoffs, including a season-high 23 points at Saint Joseph's College in the semifinals.
The only GNAC student-athlete to be recognized on the NEWBA All-Region or All-Rookie teams, Gonzalez is joined on the NEWBA All-Rookie First Team by NEWBA Rookie of the Year Bailey Donovan of Husson University, Meg Bauman of Babson College, Sam Hourihan of Springfield College, and Flannery O'Connor of Framingham State University.
Gonzalez is one of 11 players from the 2019-20 roster eligible to return next season as the Pride will look to build on their 15-12 overall mark that included an 8-3 record within the GNAC. Regis will play 16 league games in 2020-21 as the conference moves to a divisional setup, with the Pride part of the South Division along with Albertus Magnus, league newcomer Dean, Johnson & Wales, Lasell, and University of Saint Joseph.
