Women's Basketball Takes Down Simmons, Remains Perfect In GNAC

WESTON, Mass.Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) put together another solid performance, delivering 21 points on 10-14 shooting to keep the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team atop the Great Northeast Athletic Conference standings with a 74-58 win over Simmons, Saturday afternoon at Higgins Court.

Regis (7-6, 5-0 GNAC) saw contributions from a host of players including Nikki Bitinaitis (Cromwell, Conn.) who had career highs in field goals (4) and assists (7) to go along with 12 points. Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) put up 11 points, four rebounds and four assists with Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) adding eight points and seven rebounds.

Jalissa Rodriguez (Waterbury, Conn.) and Presley Silva (Wilmington, Mass.) provided the offense for the Sharks (1-9, 1-4 GNAC) scoring 17 and 14 points, respectively, with Silva adding 11 rebounds for a double double.

Regis fed Stone early and often in what was a close game through much of the first quarter. Silva scored for Simmons to tie the game at 9-9 with three minutes to play, but a 6-0 run to close the period put the Pride up 15-9.

The second quarter saw Regis extend the lead to double digits. Stone's layup midway through put her team up 25-15 with Hayes adding to the advantage with a basket and a foul as the lead swelled to 14 points by halftime.

The Pride scored the first six points out of the break to lift the lead to 20 points and coast the rest of the way for the win.

Regis is back in action Tuesday, Jan. 16, hosting Rivier at 6:00 p.m. Simmons hosts Johnson & Wales (RI) the same day at 7:00 p.m.
