Women's Basketball Falls To Montclair State at Vegas Hoopla

LAS VEGAS - Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a double double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team but it came in a 70-28 loss to Montclair State on the second and final day of the Las Vegas Hoopla played Wednesday at the Centennial Hills Community Center.

The Pride (4-3) committed a season-high 23 turnovers and was unable to overcome a poor shooting night which included 1-18 in three pointer attempts. Regis scored just five points in the final quarter in what was its lowest scoring output of the season.

Taylor Harmon (Saddle Brook, N.J.) led all scorers, putting up 13 points on 5-9 shooting for MSU who improves to 11-0 with two wins in the tournament. Kate Tobie (Elizabeth, N.J.) added eight points and six assists.

The first quarter saw MSU close on an 11-1 run to lead 15-7. Stone and Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) both had early buckets but Harmon responded with back-to-back jumpers to close the quarter.

The lead would quickly grow to 20 points when back-to-back three pointers from Rachel Krauss (Farmingdale, N.J.) and Katie Sire (Hazlet, N.J.) put the Red Hawks up 29-9 with 6:12 to play in the second period. Mikayla Murphy (Attleboro, Mass.) and Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) responded with consecutive jumpers and Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) completed an and-one play but MSU still carried a sizeable 33-16 lead into halftime.

MSU put the game away early in the third quarter with a 10-2 run that put the Red Hawks up 43-20 with 7:28 to play.

Regis returns home and will retake the court against Bowdoin on Jan. 3. Tip off at Higgins Court is set for 7:00 p.m. Montclair State is next in action Jan. 2 hosting SUNY Cortland.
