Softball Swept in Close Games with Albertus Magnus

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College was defeated in both games of Wednesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Albertus Magnus at Regis Softball Field, losing game one 8-3 and game two 3-2.

Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) went 2-for-4 in game two of the doubleheader including her 47th hit of the year which set the Regis softball single-season hits record!

GAME ONE: Albertus Magnus 8, Regis 3

In the bottom of the fifth inning, a leadoff single by Burke and a sacrifice bunt by Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.) put a runner at second for Diana Petrarca (Coventry, R.I.) who singled to the gap in right-center fielder to drive in the first Pride run of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, a Kayla Morrill (Lynn, Mass.) single up the middle, an error at shortstop, and a double steal put runners at second and third for Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) who singled to right field to drive in a pair of runs and tie the game at 3-3.

A double by Ivy Geloso and a single by Erin Molkenthin put runners at first and third for Albertus Magnus in the top of the second inning, allowing Geloso to later score from third on a double steal. A triple by Karissa Kerrs drove in another run and gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

A double by Anna Leone and a triple by Geloso drove in another run for Albertus Magnus in the top of the sixth inning, giving the visitors a 3-1 lead.

The Falcons led off the seventh inning with back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third, setting up Angelina Ramada who put the ball in play to score the go-ahead run. With the bases loaded, Leone hit a bases-clearing triple followed by an RBI double by Geloso to extend the lead to five (8-3).

GAME TWO: Albertus Magnus 3, Regis 2

Burke led off the bottom of the first with an infield single and advanced to second on a groundout by Braga. Petrarca reached on a fielder's choice, while a single by Ciara Collins (Lynn, Mass.) loaded the bases for Morrill who grounded out to second base to drive in the first run of the game. On the ensuing at-bat, Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) hit an RBI single to center field to give Regis a 2-0 lead.

The Falcons got a run back in the top of the second when a Regis error and a walk put runners at first and second for Kerrs who singled up the middle to score a run and cut the Pride lead to one (2-1).

Albertus Magnus retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Peyton Davis hit an RBI single up the middle and Leone hit an RBI double to the gap in right-center field for the go-ahead run.

Regis College (12-22, 3-7 GNAC) is currently scheduled to conclude regular season play with a home doubleheader against the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, April 29, beginning at 12 p.m.
