Regis Softball Sweeps Fisher

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College returned to its winning ways, sweeping Fisher College, 8-1 and 13-1, Wednesday evening in a non-conference collegiate softball doubleheader at Regis Softball Field.

Game One: Regis 8, Fisher 1

Fisher opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Jenna Malone led off with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a single by Kalia Zellmer, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Nayleemar Montalvo. However, the Falcons would be limited to two hits, both by Ariana Ramos Cardona, during the rest of the game.

Regis responded in the bottom of the first inning, starting with consecutive walks drawn by Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) and Kayla Morrill (Lynn, Mass.). After a successful double steal, Burke scored on an RBI groundout by Diana Petrarca (Coventry, R.I.), and Ciara Collins (Lynn, Mass.) followed with a single that drove in Morrill with the go-ahead run.

The Pride extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, loading the bases with two outs before Morrill laced a single up the middle that scored Bri Page (New Boston, N.H.) and Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.). Regis took advantage of two Fisher errors in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs to create a significant cushion heading into the final inning.

Colby Butterfield (Gilford, N.H.) picked up the victory, allowing just four hits, one walk, and one run in six innings while striking out eight batters. Sofia Vitale (Winthrop, Mass.) retired the Falcons in order in the seventh inning on just eight pitches, including one strikeout.

Game Two: Regis 13, Fisher 1

The Pride scored in all four innings with an at-bat, starting in the first inning as Burke led off with a single, stole second base, and came around to score on a single by Collins. Regis put together a six-run second inning, featuring a two-run single by Petrarca with the bases loaded and a double off the fence in left-center field by Collins that drove in another run.

After Regis scored twice in the third inning, Fisher broke through in the top of the fourth inning as Zellmer was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Alexandra Willis hit a one-out single, and then both runners advanced into scoring position on a groundout by Letty Chavez-Rendon. Montalvo hit a single up the middle to drive in Zellmer with the Falcons' only run of the game.

Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple to right field, and Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.) would bring her home with a single. After singles by Burke and Andria Braga (Rehoboth, Mass.) loaded the bases, Petrarca drove in Nichols with a single, followed by a bases-loaded walk drawn by Sarah Monahan (North Andover, Mass.) and a diving catch near the fence by Malone in left-center field on a ball hit by Collins that brought home Braga.

Alyssa Ward (Webster, Mass.) picked up her first victory of the season as she gave up just one hit in three innings while striking out three Fisher batters. Vitale again came on in relief for the final two innings, setting down the Falcons in order in the fifth inning to close out the game via the run rule.

The Pride collected 15 hits in the game, led by a 4-for-4 performance by Burke with four runs scored and a 3-for-3 effort with three RBI from Collins. Petrarca drove in four runs during the game, and Braga scored three times.
