Senior Spotlight – Softball

This concludes the GoRegisPride.com series recognizing the Regis College seniors in men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field. The softball team was scheduled to celebrate its Senior Day Thursday, April 23.

The Regis College softball team is proud to recognize two student-athletes as they approach their graduation. Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) and Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) have been significant contributors to the softball program over the past four years.

MADI McLELLAN

Madi served as a co-captain during the 2019-20 season as she participated within the softball program for her fourth year. As a freshman, she earned NECC Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-NECC honors as she went 11-9 with a 2.15 earned run average. She struck out 135 batters in 130 1/3 innings of work, including a career-high 14 strikeouts during a four-hit performance at Mitchell April 8, 2017. She worked her way back from an injury that ended her sophomore season, throwing a four-hitter in her first start of the 2019 season against Elms March 30, 2019. She began the 2020 campaign with three victories during the team's Spring Break trip, collecting 26 strikeouts against just four walks. Overall, Madi is third in program history in career strikeouts with 270, fifth in career earned run average at 3.41, sixth in both career wins with 22 and career appearances with 57, and seventh in career innings with 301 2/3. Majoring in public health, Madi plans to attend graduate school.

Head Coach Tara Petrocelli-McGloin on Madi: "Madi was the backbone of our pitching staff. She is a selfless consummate team player and, without her hard work and devotion to her teammates and coaching staff, we would not have the strong foundation and positive culture that we have in our program."

ELLERY RASMUSSEN

Ellery, one of the team captains in 2019-20, has been the anchor of the Regis lineup throughout her career, starting all 97 games she appeared in over the past four years. As a freshman, she batted .350 with 28 hits, including eight doubles, one triple, and one home run, plus she scored 13 runs and drove in 17 runs. After batting .351 as a sophomore, she earned First Team All-GNAC honors in 2019 with a .414 batting average. Of her team-leading 41 hits, Ellery collected 10 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. In 2020, she was named GNAC Player of the Week after batting .438 (14-of-32) during the team's Spring Break trip to Florida, earning four doubles and two home runs, plus she scored seven runs and drove in 14 runs. Overall, Ellery is tied for third in program history in career doubles with 26, fifth in career home runs with six, tied for sixth in career RBI with 60, and seventh in career hits with 116. An Academic All-GNAC honoree, Ellery is completing her bachelor's degree in nursing and plans to pursue a career in that field.

Head Coach Tara Petrocelli-McGloin on Ellery: "With her strong work ethic, Ellery leads her teammates by example, holding them to the same high standards to which she holds herself. The sound of her voice may not be booming, but the sound of the ball off her bat certainly is. Her dominance is also present in the field and in the classroom."

The Regis College softball team won three games during its 2020 Spring Break trip to Florida and forced two other games into extra innings.
