PRIDE HEAD BACK NORTH AFTER 3-3 SPRING SPLIT

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – The Regis College softball team wrapped up their trip to North Myrtle Beach with their third doubleheader split of their annual spring break trip. Regis defeated SUNY Canton 4-2, but fell to Cazenovia 3-2 in eight innings. The Pride head back to Weston with a 3-3 mark.

Game One: Regis (Mass.) 4, SUNY Canton 2

Allison Caloggero (Medford, Mass.) provided all the offense the Pride needed as she ripped two separate, two-RBI singles accounting for the four Pride runs. Katie Cuozzo (Lynn, Mass.) moved to 2-1 on the trip with her second complete game victory. The senior right hander allowed two runs on nine hits, struck out six batters and stranded 11 runners on base.

The Kangaroos scored the first run of the contest in the top of the third. After a Kaleigh Foran single to right field, freshman Jaedyn Ossont smoked an RBI double to left center field to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Cuozzo responded with two straight strikeouts as she got Stefanie Miller and Kristyn Reynolds to go down looking.

Regis took the lead in the bottom half of the frame after Caloggero deposited a two out single to center field. One run was bound to score as Kirbie Garvey (Littleton, Mass.) was husting around the bases, but a fielding error by the Roos centerfielder allowed Lisa Lusardi (Enfield, Conn.) to come all the way around from first and Caloggero to advance to third base. SUNY starter Jordan Podkladek induced a groundout by Cuozzo to end the frame.

The Roos responded with a run in the top of the fourth as Chloe Solomon singled to Pride shortstop Brianna Napoleone (Medford, Mass.) that plated Desiree Pryce who reached base via single. Cuozzo got the next two batters to ground out to end the inning.

During the bottom of the fifth, the Crimson and Gold took the lead for good. Two straight singles by pinch hitter Alysa DiFruscia (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Garvey opened up the door for a big inning. Podkladek pitched well against the next two batters as Napoleone lined out to center field and Michaela Nejaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) grounded out to second advancing the runners into scoring position. Caloggero stepped into the box and roped a two-RBI single to right field scoring Garvey and DiFruscia giving Regis a 4-2 lead, an advantage would never relinquish.

Kirbie Garvey went 2-for-2 in the contest with two runs scored while Lisa Lusardi was 1-for-2 with a run scored. For the Roos, Chloe Solomon was 3-for-3 in the game with a walk and an RBI while Desiree Pryce went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Game Two: Cazenovia 3, Regis (Mass.) 2 – 8 Innings

Cazenovia scored in extra frames to take a 3-2 victory in the spring break finale for the Crimson and Gold. Senior backstop Angelica Clark roped an RBI single that scored junior Taylor Spranger who reached via a double for the go ahead run in the top half of the eighth. Regis tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't get any offense going as Kelsey Morgan danced out of danger and earned the save.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Regis second basemen Michaela Nejaime stroked an RBI double scoring teammate Alysa Difriscia (Tewksbury, Mass.), the batter before Nejaime who ripped a two-bagger to get in scoring position.

Regis returns to the field in nine days when they open up conference play against Newbury for doubleheader softball action on Friday, March 18 with first pitched slated for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
