REGIS EARNS #6 SEED IN NECC POSTSEASON

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College softball team has earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament, it was announced on Monday morning. The Pride (12-22) will take on No. 3 seed Newbury College (18-17) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pride and Nighthawks split their doubleheader meeting earlier this year with Newbury taking game one, 7-1, before Regis responded with an 11-10 victory in the nightcap.

For the second-straight year the Pride have earned the No. 6 seed, while Newbury has rebounded from a 9-26 season a year ago to claim the third seed.

Lesley University finished the regular season 17-1 and earned the top seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Softball Championship. The Lynx (21-17 overall, 17-1 NECC) earned a first round bye and will host the weekend tournament at UMass Boston beginning Friday, May 3.

Four teams finished tied 8-10 in league play and predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams.

Becker College (20-12, 14-4 NECC) earned the second seed and will play seventh seed Mitchell (11-23, 8-10 NECC) in a first round game on Tuesday, April 30.

Fifth seed Daniel Webster College (13-21, 8-10 NECC) will travel to fourth seed Elms College (10-19, 9-9 NECC) for a first round matchup.

First round games will be played on Tuesday, April 30 at the higher seed. Winners will advance to the double-elimination tournament hosted by Lesley and played at UMass Boston on Friday, May 3-5.

The top seven teams qualify for the NECC Championship. Game times and dates are subject to change.
