PRIDE DROP TWO ON DAY THREE OF GENE CUSIC CLASSIC

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Regis College fell to Wilmington College, 10-2, and followed that up with a 10-1 setback to Dominican University on Monday morning in Fort Myers, Fla. The Pride (0-6) wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow morning with matchups against Northland College and Wittenberg University.

After a quiet top of the first, Wilmington put up four runs in their half of the inning on RBI singles from Brooke Byrne and Nikki Tolson, as well as a sacrifice fly from Erika Lee. The Pride got on the board in the top of the second as a throwing error by the Wilmington pitcher allowed Alyssa McKinnon (Raynham, Mass.) to scoot home before Samantha Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) added an RBI groundout to make it a 4-2 game.

Regis' Haley Fountain (Warren, Mass.) kept the Quakers off the scoreboard in the second and third innings, but Wilmington struck in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles by Megan Warren and another Tolson drive. The Quakers also added a pair of runs on a Pride error to take an 8-2 lead. Wilmington's Jess Clutter would scatter three hits over the final four innings to hang on for the 10-2 victory in six innings.

Alyssa McKinnon led the Pride offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with Michaela NeJaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) and Emily Pickett (Wrentham, Mass.) adding the other two hits for Regis. Haley Fountain falls to 0-3 on the year, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits in five innings pitched.

In game two of the day, Dominican struck in the first inning on an RBI single by Kaitlin Barajas to give the Stars an early 1-0 lead. They tacked on one more in the top of the second as Julia Smith snuck home on a fielder's choice to give Dominican a 2-0 advantage. The Pride got one back in their half of the second as Kaitlynn LaPolt (New Haven, Conn.) picked up an RBI with a single to right that scored Marissa Magarian (Goffstown, N.H.).

The Stars would go on to score at least one run in each of the final four innings, including four in the top of the sixth, to take home the 10-1 victory.

Alyssa McKinnon added another hit in the setback to Dominican and finished her day 3-for-6 at the dish. Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and a stolen base, while Fountain and LaPolt added the other hits for the Pride.

Katie Cuozzo (Lynn, Mass.) went six innings, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 14 hits while striking out two in the setback.
