BENJAMIN BLASTS TWO-RUN SHOT IN DOUBLEHEADER LOSS TO GORDON

WESTON, Mass.—Hope Benjamin (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) smacked a two-run homerun in the first inning for Regis College (1-26, 0-17 TCCC) to give the Pride a one-run lead over Gordon College Saturday. However, Gordon would defeat Regis College 7-2 in game one, and 14-5 in game two of the conference doubleheader.

Benjamin had two runs batted in for the Pride going 1-for-3 on the day. She had 10 putouts in game one. She finished game two with 13 putouts, while going 1-for-3 at the plate and adding another RBI to her season total.

The Scots of Gordon College (10-12, 7-7 TCCC) were productive offensively. Given a scoreless second inning in game one for both teams, Gordon rallied off six runs in the third inning. Kendall Bukuras (North Falmouth, Mass.) and Rachael Morrisey (Mashpee, Mass.) each had productive days at the plate.

Bukuras went 3-for-4 at the plate, and scored two runs. Morrisey was 2-for-3, and scored a run. Each continued their dominant play in game two. Bukuras had four RBIs in the second game.

Bukuras posted a triple game one, along with a two doubles in game two. Seven players had RBIs for Gordon in game two.

Claire Bennett (Mumford, NY) earned the win in game one after pitching six innings, allowing three hits, two runs, and committed two errors. She had 11 strikeouts in 21 batters faced. Kendra Abram (Acushnet, Mass.) pitched four innings for Regis College allowing nine hits, seven runs, and committed four errors. Abrams had no strikeouts or walks in 27 batters faced.

Regis College started off hot in game two scoring two runs in the second inning to again take a one-run lead. Gordon answered in the third with three runs, with Regis matching that total to enter the fourth inning up 5-4.

Beginning in the fourth inning, Gordon would score four runs on and have three hits. In the fifth Gordon tallied two more runs, before putting the game away with four more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Amber Harris (Concord, NH) and Liz Cheesman (Winslow, Maine) each posted two RBIs in game two, and scored at least a run for Gordon. Harris posted three runs on 2-for-4 batting. Cheesman was also solid with her 2-for-3 performance, and earned the only walk of the doubleheader.

Sarah Porteus (South Wellfleet, Mass./Nauset) pitched three innings, allowed nine hits, eight runs, and had seven errors while on the mound. She faced 20 batters. Abram returned to pitch three innings, and allowed six hits and six runs, and had the only walk of the game.

Hannah Lawerence (Somerset, Mass.) started the second game pitching four innings, and allowing six hits, fiver runs, and had four errors. Bennett returned to save the game, and allowed just one hit in seven batters faced.

Regis College will host Anna Maria College (April 10) in doubleheader action Sunday. Gordon College will face Salem State (April 11) in non-conference action.
