PREVIEW: REGIS COLLEGE SOFTBALL TO HOST TWO TCCC OPPONENTS OVER WEEKEND

PREVIEW: REGIS COLLEGE SOFTBALL TO HOST TWO TCCC OPPONENTS OVER WEEKEND

WESTON, Mass.—With its Tuesday (April 5) game versus Daniel Webster postponed, Regis College softball will have two extra days to prepare for Nichols College Thursday. Following its Nichols game, Regis College (1-22, 0-12 TCCC) will begin a four-game home stretch. Two of the four games will be against The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents.

Nichols (9-10, 5-3 TCCC) will begin a three-game TCCC run of games for the Pride. With the fourth best overall record and tied fourth in TCCC play, Nichols will not be an easy game for the Pride. As a team, the Bison have a slightly better batting average (.254) than Regis College, but have produced 95 runs in 19 games. The Pride has scored 50 runs, and have 45 runs batted in its 23 games. Gordon (6-10, 3-5 TCCC) is second in the TCCC in team batting average (.321). The Scots have scored 90 runs, 19 doubles, and five homeruns.

Nichols’ Allasyn Lieneck is batting an impressive .396 in 48 at bats, has three doubles, and six RBIs this season. Emily Borden of Gordon has a .395 batting average and 15 RBIs.

Kara Donovan and Hope Benjamin fall slightly below Lieneck, as the duo is batting .377 and .367, respectively. Donovan has a team-high six doubles, and one homerun. Benjamin leads the team with three homeruns and 15 RBIs. Benjamin has half as many homeruns as she did all of last season.

Regis’ game versus Nichols will be a tough day defensively for the Pride. Regis leads the conference in errors (82), and the Bison have been solid in its plate appearances. Although Gordon has a better batting average than Regis, Gordon has just 390 at bats, and four fewer hits.

Gordon and Regis College should be evenly matched on the field, and have comparable earned run averages. Gordon has an ERA of 9.21, while Regis College is slightly higher with an 11.21 ERA.

Nichols has an ERA of 4.20, which ranks the Bison fourth in the conference. Regis College returns home to face Gordon Saturday (April 9), before hosting Anna Maria College on Sunday (April 10).
