NEWPORT, R.I. – Freshman Jennifer Edine (Warwick, R.I.) drove in three runs in game one and sophomore Jillian Quintana (Denver, Colo.) belted a three-run home run in game two in Salve Regina University’s doubleheader sweep of Regis (Mass.) College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) softball action Sunday afternoon at Toppa Field. The Seahawks won game one, 8-0, in six innings and game two, 10-0, in five innings.

In the nightcap, Simpson and junior Nikki Hirschbeck (Shelton, Conn.) knocked in two runs each for the Seahawks.

After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Seahawks scored at least one run in each of the next five innings. Edine and Muehlbronner each brought home runs in the second to stake SRU to a 2-0 lead, and Barbarita plated the Seahawks third run with an RBI groundout in the third. Simpson plated the Seahawks fourth run in the fourth inning to push the lead to 4-0. In the fifth, Edine singled home a pair of runners, and after stealing second came around to score on a single by Muehlbronner. Barbarita ended the game with an RBI single down the left field line in the sixth.

The Seahawks pushed across a single run in the first inning of game two to grab an early lead, then put up a ‘9’ spot in the second to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Simpson doubled down the left field line with the bases loaded to plate two runners, and Quintana followed with a blast to left-center that cleared the bases and stretched the lead to 6-0.
