Regis Cross Country Gets First Look at League Championships Course

STANDISH, Maine – Members of the Regis College cross country team became familiar with the course that will host the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships in November, as the Pride competed in the Runnin' Monks Invitational, hosted by Saint Joseph's College Saturday.

JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) earned another top-five finish to lead the Regis men, finishing in fifth place with an eight-kilometer time of 28:01.5. Christian Hendricks (Edgewater, Md.) was next for the Pride, crossing the finish line in 36th place with a time of 31:01.3.

Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) finished in 47th place in 32:15.8, just ahead of Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) in 48th place with a time of 32:27.1. Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) ended up in 63rd place with a time of 34:52.1, followed by Jacob O'Neal (New Britain, Conn.) in 64th place in 35:00.2 and Ben O'Neal (New Britain, Conn.) in 74th place in 39:18.7.

As a team, the Pride men finished in sixth place with 151 points. With seven runners in the top 10, Bates cruised to the team title, and Jarrod Ottman of Thomas College earned the individual title with a time of 27:06.7, eight seconds ahead of Troy Hendricks of Saint Joseph's College.

Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) was the top Regis runner in the women's six-kilometer race, finishing 13th overall with a time of 26:25.1. Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) ended up in 45th place in 28:59.4, and Lizzy Melvin (Southington, Conn.) finished in 58th place with a time of 30:22.4. The Regis women did not post a team score.

Regis will compete at the Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston next Saturday, Oct. 19, starting at 2:30 p.m.
