Cody Werner, Liam Austin Receive GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - Thanks to winning performances in leading the Regis College men's swimming and diving team to dual meet victories over Colby-Sawyer College and Elms College, Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Male Swimmer of the Week and Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) has received GNAC Male Diver of the Week recognition, announced Monday, Jan. 8, by the league office.

Werner won three individual events as Regis swept Saturday's double-dual meet held at Simmons University. He cruised to victory in the 1000 freestyle in 11:05.64 and the 500 freestyle in 5:22.71, posting season-best times in both events for the Pride.

In addition, Werner won the 100 butterfly in 57.16 seconds and capped the meet by anchoring Regis' 200 freestyle relay, posting a 50 free split of 24.49 seconds. This is the first weekly award this season for Werner, who received GNAC Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors one year ago after his performance at Colby-Sawyer College.

Austin broke the school record for a six-dive score in three meter diving Saturday. He posted an overall score of 193.60, almost 40 points higher than the previous standard established last year. Austin also finished first in one meter diving with a six-dive score of 189.75, helping Regis to victories over Colby-Sawyer and Elms.

The sophomore now owns the four established diving school records, all set this season. This is the fourth GNAC Diver of the Week award for Austin this season, as he previously received recognition Oct. 16, Oct. 23, and Dec. 4.

The Regis College swimming and diving team will host Albertus Magnus College Friday, Jan. 12, starting at 6 p.m. and Elms College Saturday, Jan. 20, beginning at 11 a.m. before preparing for the GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships taking place Feb. 2-4 at WPI in Worcester, Mass.
