Liam Austin Named GNAC Diver of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - After a record-setting weekend, sophomore Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Male Diver of the Week, announced Monday afternoon, Dec. 4, by the league office.

Friday, Austin started his participation in the Regis Invitational by setting a new school record for five dives with an overall score of 144.5, highlighted by scores of 8 and 7.5 on a reverse dive in the tuck position. Later Friday, he smashed the school record for six dives with a total score of 223.05, receiving several judges' scores of 7 and 7.5 throughout the session.

Saturday, he found his rhythm throughout the 11-dive program, earning scores of 8 and 7 on his third dive, a back dive in the tuck position. On his seventh dive, an inward dive with one-and-a-half somersaults in the tuck position, he collected two scores of 8. Austin completed the event with a total 11-dive score of 387.82, breaking the school record by over 65 points.

This is the third time this season Austin has received the GNAC weekly award for diving, as he was previously honored Oct. 16 and Oct. 23.

The Regis College men's swimming and diving team returns to competition after the holiday break, facing Colby-Sawyer College in a meet hosted by Simmons University Saturday, Jan. 6, starting at 11 a.m.
