Diving School Record Set at Saturday Dual Meet

WESTON, Mass. - Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) broke a school record in one meter diving as Regis College battled Eastern Connecticut State before the Warriors prevailed on both the men's (186-81) and women's (186.5-75.5) side in a dual meet Saturday at the Regis Pool.

Austin posted an 11-dive score of 322.45, breaking the school record set last season by over 40 points. He has now established the new school records for five dives, six dives, and 11 dives through the first three meets of the 2023-24 season.

Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) won two individual events, finishing first in the 50 breaststroke by 4/100ths of a second with a time of 30.03 seconds and in the 100 breaststroke by 9/100ths of a second with a time of 1:05.21. Kim also posted the fastest 50 breast split of 29.06 seconds in the 200 medley relay, joining with Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa), and Casey Whittaker (Topsham, Maine) for a second place finish with an overall time of 1:46.09.

Whittaker collected the other individual event victory for the men, touching the wall first in the 100 freestyle in 52.36 seconds, followed by Werner in 52.87 seconds. Whittaker also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 23.81 seconds and in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.75.

Werner also finished second in the 50 butterfly in 25.75 seconds and in the 100 butterfly in 56.71 seconds. Nagaraj ended up second in the 50 backstroke in 28.14 seconds.

On the women's side, Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) picked up the Pride's lone event victory, winning the 1000 freestyle in 12:37.06. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:16.86, followed by Davinity Smallwood (Naugatuck, Conn.) in third place in 6:20.02.

Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) finished second in the 50 backstroke with a time of 31.78 seconds and in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.32. Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) placed second in the 50 breaststroke in 36.27 seconds, the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.54, and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:31.87.

Capping off the meet, the quartet of Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.), Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.), Hubster, and Smallwood finished second in the 200 freestyle relay with an overall time of 1:56.91. Assamoi, coming off a tie for third in the 50 freestyle in 28.03 seconds, posted the fastest leadoff split at 28.94 seconds, while Smallwood completed the relay with a 50 free split of 28.67 seconds.

Regis College enters a busy weekend next week, traveling to face Gordon College Friday, Oct. 27, starting at 6 p.m. The Pride will then head south for the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 11 a.m.
