Pride Men Sweep GNAC Swim & Dive Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – With strong performances over the first two weeks of the 2023-24 season, the Regis College men's swimming and diving team swept the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards of the year, as announced by the league office Monday, Oct. 16.

Sophomore Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named the GNAC Male Swimmer of the Week as he won events in both meets. On Oct. 7 against USJ, Kim collected two event wins, finishing first in the 50 breaststroke in 30.06 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.33, plus he ended up in second place in the 50 freestyle at 25.12 seconds.

Last Saturday at Babson, Kim picked up the Pride's only event victory, winning the 100 breaststroke by a half-second with a time of 1:04.03. He also finished third in the 50 breaststroke in 29.93 seconds, just 7/100ths of a second behind second place.

Fellow sophomore Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) received GNAC Male Diver of the Week honors as he set two school records and posted an additional personal best mark over the past two weeks. He broke the five-dive and six-dive one meter diving school records against USJ and UNE Oct. 7.

Austin first posted a five-dive score of 140.70, breaking his own school record of 125.75 established last year. He went on to break the six-dive record with a score of 175.00, over 13 points higher than the previous mark set last season. This past Saturday at Babson, he posted a personal-best score of 152.30 in three meter diving and then posted a score of 156.00 in one meter diving, finishing third in both events.

First-year swimmer Casey Whittaker (Topsham, Maine) collected the GNAC Male Rookie of the Week award as he made his collegiate debut Saturday at Babson. After anchoring the 200 medley relay with a 50 free split of 24.01 seconds, he finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.62 and fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.85 seconds. Whittaker then posted his team's fastest 50 free split at 23.52 seconds as he helped the 200 freestyle relay team to an overall time of 1:37.59.

Regis College (1-1) hosts Eastern Connecticut State Saturday, Oct. 21, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Regis Pool.
