Victory for Pride Men Highlights Saturday Swim and Dive Meet

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Regis College men's swimming and diving team produced several top performances to defeat Colby-Sawyer College, 119-63, Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at the Knight Natatorium.

Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.) earned two event victories, finishing first in the 200 freestyle by over five-and-a-half seconds with a time of 2:03.17 and in the 50 butterfly by just 8/100ths of a second with a time of 26.07 seconds. Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) also collected two victories with wins in the 50 backstroke in 28.89 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 54.20 seconds.

Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) joined the double-win club with victories in the 50 breaststroke in 31.11 seconds and the 100 individual medley in 1:04.00. He also finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.69 behind teammate Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa), who touched the wall first in that event in 5:21.07 as well as in the 100 butterfly in 57.52 seconds.

Kim, Madriz, Nagaraj, and Werner capped the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay by over four seconds with a time of 1:38.39. Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.) competed in both diving events, posting scores of 143.55 in the one meter diving session and 95.70 in the three meter diving session.

Meanwhile, the women battled two conference opponents in a double-dual meet, but eventually lost to both Colby-Sawyer College, 140-99, and to Simmons University, 148-72.

Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 13:32.75, third in the 100 butterfly in 1:19.57, and fourth in the 500 freestyle in 6:38.56. Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) placed second in both the 50 backstroke in 32.28 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:09.34 as well as fourth in the 50 butterfly in 30.92 seconds.

Olivia Roux (Sanford, Maine) finished third in both the 50 breaststroke in 37.79 seconds and the 100 individual medley in 1:11.41 as well as fourth in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.07. Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) placed just ahead of Roux in the 100 IM in 1:11.02 as well as third in both the 50 freestyle in 28.38 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.87.

Individually, Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) finished third in the 500 freestyle in 6:30.35 and sixth in the 50 freestyle in 29.99 seconds. She also led off Regis' 200 medley relay, teaming with Luhnau, Miller, and Roux for an overall time of 2:09.14.

Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) participated in both diving events, posting scores of 211.73 in the one meter diving session and 192.83 in the three meter diving session.

The Regis College swimming and diving teams continue their seasons in preparation for the GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 3-5 at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass.
