Two Pool Records Highlight Regis Men’s Swim Performance at Home Invite

WESTON, Mass.Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) broke a six-year-old pool record and Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) improved upon his pool record time as Regis College finished second at the Regis Invitational Sunday at the Regis Aquatics Center.

Both record performances took place in the afternoon session, starting with Pike's victory in the 400 individual medley in 4:27.57, 2.38 seconds faster than the previous standard established by Alex Graf in 2013. Earlier in the day, Pike finished first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.58 seconds, almost two full seconds in front of his nearest competitor.

Kollien capped off the meet by completing the 1650 freestyle in 17:36.41, 7.08 seconds quicker than the mark he posted during the same event last year. Pike also improved upon his time in the mile from last season's Regis Invitational by 32 seconds with a mark of 17:46.20.

Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) took three individual events for the Pride during the day, starting with a close victory in the 500 freestyle in 5:01.30, just a half-second ahead of Pike. The freshman also finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.03 and in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.78, plus he ended up second in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.67.

Kollien finished second in both the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.33 and the 100 freestyle in 54.06 seconds, ahead of Gueincy Clodomir (Pembroke Park, Fla.) in third place in 56.95 seconds. Clodomir also finished third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.85 seconds.

At the start of the meet, the quartet of Wood, Clodomir, Pike, and Kollien finished second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.66. Wood, Clodomir, Kollien, and Noah Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.) also touched the wall second in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.88.

As a team, the Pride finished second in the team competition with 105 points, just ahead of Elms College's 94 points. Husson University finished first by accumulating 179 points, winning five events in each session for a total of 10 event victories.

The Regis men's swim team does not compete again until Saturday, Jan. 11 at Colby-Sawyer starting at 12 p.m.
