Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Prepares for Florida Training Trip

WESTON, Mass. - For the first time in four years, the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming & diving teams have headed south for an off-campus training trip. Head coach James Sweeney and his teams touched down in Boca Raton, Fla. for their five-day trip late Sunday night after dealing with a handful of weather-related flight cancellations over the past 48 hours.

"It's a great time to get away and get off campus," said Sweeney. "Especially with the weather, it's good to be able to go somewhere."

The Pride last went away on a training trip in 2013, when the teams spent a week in Puerto Rico. A variety of issues prevented the teams from going away since, but everything fell into place this year to allow for what the teams are calling #BocaTrainingTrip2K17.

The team will train at Florida Atlantic University and Saint Andrew's School while in Boca Raton, with water workouts and dryland training on the beach in the plans. The team will practice three times daily for the duration of the trip. "It's a vacation for (the coaching staff), but not for the team," Sweeney joked.

The Pride will also have a handful of team bonding opportunities while in Florida, including an afternoon excursion to Fort Lauderdale.

Upon returning from Florida, the Pride will have a quick turnaround, as they will travel to Colby-Sawyer for a meet against the host Chargers and the Sharks from Simmons College on Saturday, Jan. 14, just one day after returning to New England.
