WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming and diving teams will open the season on Saturday, Oct. 15 hosting the University of New England, as head coach James Sweeney announced the 2016-17 schedule Monday.

"Coming off a record breaking season with both teams placing in their highest finish ever at the NEISDA Championships, I wanted to continue to build upon our success by giving us more challenges this year," said Sweeney who enters his fifth season at the helm of the swimming and diving programs.

After hosting its season opener vs. the Nor'easters, the Pride will take part in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational hosted by Roger Williams on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Regis returns home for the next two weekends. The Pride Bridgewater State and Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 29 then welcome Gordon the following Saturday.

The Pride then go back out on the road. Regis joins Babson visiting Norwich Saturday, Nov. 12 then visits St. Joseph's (ME) on Friday, Nov. 18.

"The women's team doubled their win total from the previous year and the men have been undefeated for the past two years," added Sweeney, "so adding dual meets against Norwich and Babson, and attending the CCC Invite at Roger Williams will be a great test. We are looking forward to our challenges this year."

Regis will have two weeks off before December ushers in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships hosting by Simmons College Dec. 3 and 4. The Pride had a successful showing last season as the men's team finished second in the team standings with the women placing third.

The Pride will have the rest of the month off and welcome the new year with a Jan. 14 men's meet at Colby-Sawyer and a women's meet at Simmons. Regis then hosts Elms (Jan. 21) in a meeting of NECC schools before closing the regular season at Bridgewater State.

The New England Championships run from Feb. 16-19 at the University of Rhode Island with the Division III Swimming & Diving Championships taking place in Shenandoah, Texas from Mar. 15-18.
