Swimming & Diving Lands Top 20 GPA, Garners GNAC Academic Honors

GNAC Release

WINTHROP, Mass. – Six members of the Regis swimming & diving teams were named to the 2015-16 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team, announced Tuesday by GNAC commissioner Joe Walsh.

A total of 865 students were named which included Robert Eckberg (Northbridge, Mass.), Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) and Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) of the Pride men's team and Najheen Anglin (Springfield, Mass.), Laura Holland (Mansfield, Mass.) and Amanda Iandoli (Mansfield, Mass.) on the ladies side.

The men's and women's teams as a whole shined in the classroom with both for the first time ranking in the top 20 nationally in team GPA. The womens team GPA was the highest of any Regis program this year and the best since head coach James Sweeney took over in 2012.

"I am extremely pleased with the hard work and dedication that our student-athletes put in the classroom," said Sweeney. "Our teams have a high standard of excellence in the classroom and in the pool, and this reflects our team's culture and our continued commitment to excellence. We also had a record breaking season in the pool with both teams having their highest placing at NE Championships, and this caps off a record setting season. For both teams' GPA's to be nationally ranked in the top 20 is just awesome."

Regis competes in the GNAC as an affiliate member for the sports of men's and women's swimming and diving. Regis will become a full-fledged member for all sports beginning with the 2017-18 academic year.
