ESTRADA AND MANDIC BLAZE TIMES IN POOL AT TCCC INVITATIONAL

WESTON, Mass.—Sophomore Christina Estrada (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone Valley) and freshman Djordie Mandic (Portland, Maine) each notched wins, or broke Regis College records in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational Friday night. Estrada took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:39.42, giving Regis College 16 points for the top position. Mandic broke a school record with his 22.78 finishing time in the 50 freestyle.

Mandic finished third in the 50 freestyle, giving Regis College 12 points towards its day one total of 78. Teammate’s Stephen McGovern (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College) and Ben Perry (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) had top 10 finishes in the 200-individual medley. McGovern and Perry finished with times of 2:22.37 and 2:22.40 respectively.

Mandic, McGovern, and Perry were joined by Andy Laforest (Roslindale, Mass./Another Course) to take fourth place in the 400-medley relay, finishing with a time of 4:06.17.

On the women’s side, Estrada took first in the 500-freestyle while senior Lindsay Ranahan (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) captured third with a time of 5:45.16. Freshman Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass./Waltham Senior) led the 200-freestyle relay team to a top 10 finish swimming the first leg of the event.

Sophmore Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass./Rockland), freshman Megan Kennelly (Milford, Mass./Milford) and freshman Jackie Penwarden (Rockland, Mass.) joined her to finish with a time of 1:57.20.

The team will return to the pool for the second day of the TCCC Invitational at Roger Williams University. The meet is scheduled for all day Saturday.
