WOMEN SWIM TO FIRST VICTORY VERSUS ST. JOSEPH'S

WESTON, Mass.—The Regis College Women’s Swimming team captured its first win of the season versus St. Joseph’s of Maine Saturday, defeating the Monks 117-108. The Pride had six first place victories as a team, including individual performances. The men’s swimming team improved to 4-2 after defeating St. Joe’s 104-70. Sophomore Nick Yerzyk set a record time in the 50-yard backstroke.

The narrow victory for the women was one to be enjoyed. Having battled in seven meets this season, and with a number of swimmers posting season and personal best times, the win seemed overdue. Christina Estrada (Bellington, Mass./Blackstone Valley Tech.) continued her successful season winning three individual events, and adding to several relay wins.

Teammate Lindsay Ranahan (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) also swam with personal success. She took first place in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. The pair was also members of 400 freestyle relay (4:05.30) with Megan Kennelly (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass./Rockland), which took first place points for Regis College.

Kelsey-Jane Wright and freshman Stacy Burns each earned top three finishes in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle with times of 1:14.88 and 28.24 respectively.

The men’s team of Djordje Mandic (Portland, Maine), Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.), Ben Perry (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee), and Sean O’Brien (Westerly, RI/Westerly) also won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:52.21.

Mandic and Adam Millerick placed first and second respectively in the 50 freestyle, marking times of 23.29 and 25.51.

The two teams will compete in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational December 3-4. The meet begins Friday, Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m., with it continuing 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
