MEN CAPTURE THIRD WIN OF SEASON, WOMEN'S TEAM NIP AT THE HEELS OF GORDON

WESTON, Mass.—Regis College men’s swimming and diving captured its third win of the 2010 season by defeating Gordon College 133-93 Saturday afternoon. The Regis College women’s team was also in competition with the Gordon Fighting Scots, but lost its meet 127-113. 

Freshman Djordje Mandic swam to two first place victories, and lead teammates Alex Caliendo, a freshman, and sophomore Stephen McGovern to first, second, and third place victory respectively, in the 50-yard butterfly.

Mandic’s other first place finish came in the 100 butterfly. Ben Perry and Nick Yerzyk each earned first place points for the Pride in the 200 and 50 freestyle respectively. The pair finished in times of 28.96 and 24.47.

Teammate Andy Laforest notched a first place victory in the 100 free with a speedy time of 26.75.

On the women’s side, Lindsay Ranahan and Christina Estrada continued their dominance. Ranahan notched a first place finish in the 50 backstroke with a time six seconds faster (31.50) than the second place finisher. She also led the 500 freestyle swimmers with a 5:51.00.

Estrada notched three second place swims for Regis College. Another notable swimmer for the Pride women was sophomore Kelsey Jane Wright who took first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:13.88, a narrow win by two seconds. Stacy Burns also took a top three finish in the 50 butterfly, marking a time of 32.62.

The two teams will have about six days off before its next meets. The women’s team will host the Regis College Swimming and Diving Invitational on November 12 and 13 at 7:00 p.m., while the men will host Post University at 3:00 p.m.
