WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's lacrosse team hosted Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Rivier University at Regis Stadium tonight, where the Raiders scored five or more goals in each quarter en route to a commanding 23-4 victory. The loss drops the Pride to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in GNAC play.
Four different players found the back of the net for the Pride, with Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) contributing two assists. On the defensive end, Jack Glowacz (Saugus, Mass.) forced three turnovers and collected four ground balls, while Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) made 16 saves in goal.
Leading the way for the Raiders, Michael Zapatka tallied seven goals and three assists, followed by Connor Eck with four goals and two assists. Michael Ference orchestrated the offense with six assists to go along with one goal. In net, Samuel Tibbetts recorded nine saves to secure the win.
How it Happened:
- Ference and Zapatka were involved in all six of the Raiders' first-quarter goals, while Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) momentarily halted the momentum with a goal at the 6:08 mark off a pass from Marsella.
- In the second quarter, five different Raiders found the back of the net, fueling a six-goal period that sent them into halftime with a commanding 12-1 lead.
- Luke Meelia (Acushnet, Mass.) ended the Pride's scoring drought with a goal at the 4:15 mark of the third quarter, their first since Schumacher's tally in the opening frame, making it a 16-2 game.
- Evan Azary (Shelton, Conn.) and Matt Cabassa (Weymouth, Mass.) each added goals in the final quarter, but the Raiders maintained control and secured a dominant 23-4 victory over the Pride.
Inside the Numbers:
- Anthony Marsella has contributed offensively in seven of his eight appearances this season, recording either a goal or an assist in each of those games.
- With 16 saves tonight, Devin Hammon notched his fifth double-digit save performance of the season.
