WESTON, Mass. – Regis Pride men's lacrosse fell to Saint Joseph's College (Me.) in their home opener at Regis Stadium, 16-5. With the loss, the Pride drop to 0-2 on the young season while the Monks improve to 2-2.
Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) and Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) each scored two goals for Regis, with Klein also collecting four ground balls. On defense, Colin McGarry (Brookline, N.H.) led the way with five caused turnovers, and goalie Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) recorded 21 saves in the effort.
For Saint Joseph's, Calvin Heline scored four goals followed by Brandon Cavicchi who netted a hat trick. Defensively, Anthony Samiotes caused four turnovers and scooped up five ground balls, while Reed Wescott made seven saves to secure the victory.
How it Happened:
- The Monks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, sparked by two goals from Heline, before Regis responded with goals from Klein and Jaynes, cutting the deficit to 3-2 with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter.
- Saint Joseph's then scored four unanswered goals, taking a 7-2 lead into the break.
- Klein and Jaynes each registered their second goals of the game in the third quarter, but the Monks extended their lead with five more goals, pushing the score to 12-4 heading into the final frame.
- In the fourth, the Monks added four goals while the Pride scored once, courtesy of Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.), sealing the 16-5 Monk victory at Regis Stadium.
Inside the Numbers:
- Nick Klein, Jack Jaynes, and Weston Schumacher each scored their first goals of the season tonight, with Schumacher's goal marking the first of his career in the red and gold.
- Devin Hammon turned away a season-high 21 saves in tonight's effort.
