Regis Men’s Lacrosse Cruises to Home Victory

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College got back on the winning track, scoring early to take control and cruising to a 14-2 victory over Mitchell College Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.) scored the first two goals of the match 42 seconds apart and then assisted on a goal by Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) 51 seconds later. Cook would complete his hat trick to extend the Regis lead to 4-0, with the Pride scoring four more times in the first quarter, featuring two goals by Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) as well as tallies from Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) and Liam Donovan (Lynn, Mass.).

In the second quarter, Marsella assisted on goals by Jaynes and Klein, and then Jaynes earned assists on goals by Klein and Evan Azary (Shelton, Conn.) 56 seconds apart as the Pride went into halftime ahead, 12-0. Mitchell broke through midway through the third quarter on an unassisted goal by Weston Schumacher, but Regis responded just over four minutes later as Matt Cabassa (Weymouth, Mass.) scored off an assist from Jaynes.

The Mariners would overcome a man-down situation as Jon Parra-Tobey scored in the fourth quarter. The Pride closed out the scoring on a goal by Connor Deveau (Harwichport, Mass.), with Marsella picking up his fourth assist of the night.

Ryan Guerrette (Litchfield, N.H.) picked up his first career collegiate victory as he started in net and played the entire match, finishing with six saves and a .750 save percentage. Dylan Kinsella continually faced the Regis offensive attack, earning 16 saves as the Pride enjoyed a 30-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Colin McGarry (Brookline, N.H.) led the Pride with five groundballs and five caused turnovers, while Zach Sweeney (Torrington, Conn.) finished with three caused turnovers. Keeano Gonzalez held his own in the faceoff circle for the Mariners as he collected seven groundballs along with four caused turnovers.

Regis (6-6, 2-6 GNAC) hosts Albertus Magnus Saturday, April 20, starting at 6 p.m., with the Senior Night presentation to take place beforehand. Mitchell (0-9, 0-8 GNAC) travels to face University of Saint Joseph Saturday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m.
