Regis Unable to Prevent Emmanuel Offensive Run in GNAC Loss

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College answered the first scoring run by Emmanuel College to keep Wednesday's match close after one quarter, but the Saints put together another run to start the second quarter on their way to a 17-7 victory over the Pride in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Emmanuel jumped on the board 63 seconds into the match on an unassisted goal by Sanzio DiGesualdo. Just under three minutes later, Thomas Quigley scored off an assist from Cooper Mehlhorn, who then scored the next two goals to extend the Saint lead to 4-0 midway through the opening period.

The Pride battled back, starting with a goal by Evan Azary (Shelton, Conn.) off an assist from Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.). Just 75 seconds later, Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) picked up an unassisted goal, and then Marsella found Connor Deveau (Harwichport, Mass.) for a tally three minutes later to bring Regis within one goal at 4-3.

The Saints rattled off five straight goals through the first 11 minutes of the second quarter, led by Quigley and Cole Cloney with two goals apiece. Just 48 seconds after Cloney's second goal, Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) picked up a goal off an assist from Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), and then Klein earned his second goal of the night, but that was answered just 19 seconds later by Cloney's third goal of the match to give Emmanuel a 10-5 lead at halftime.

Cloney would earn a goal and an assist during Emmanuel's 4-0 scoring run in the third quarter before Cook scored off a Jaynes assist with 46 seconds remaining in the period. The Saints scored three of the four goals in the fourth quarter, with the last two coming from Ryan Etzo exactly three minutes apart.

The Emmanuel offense was led by Cloney with four goals and one assist, while Quigley and Mehlhorn finished with three goals and two assists each and DiGesualdo earned a hat trick of his own. Ty Carroll was 14-for-25 on faceoffs as he led all players with 11 groundballs, and Saint goalie Eric Anderson collected 13 saves during the match.

Cook and Klein led the Pride with two goals apiece, and Marsella dished out three assists during the contest. Brayden Hutchinson (Belgrade, Maine) collected five groundballs, including his 100th career groundball, and Jack Glowacz (Saugus, Mass.) led Regis with six groundballs. Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) finished with 11 saves for the Pride, plus he received help from the pipes as three Saint shots hit the crossbar and two others clanged off the post.
