Regis Men’s Lacrosse Loses at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Regis College allowed Dean College to get too far ahead as the Pride put together an offensive flurry in the fourth quarter but were unable to overcome the Bulldogs as Dean prevailed, 19-8, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse match at Grant Field.

Regis struck first just 1:45 into the match as Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) opened the scoring for the afternoon. The Bulldogs would pull even just over five minutes into the contest on a goal by Alec Speirs, followed by a goal from Grayson Colvin less than a minute later and tallies by Diego Alvarez-Segee and Manny Alvarez-Segee 53 seconds apart.

Later in the first quarter, Diego Alvarez-Segee and Manny Alvarez-Segee would score again 40 seconds apart, and then Diego Alvarez-Segee scored his third goal of the match with 2:12 left in the first quarter. Owen Brine would score just over three minutes into the second quarter, followed by a goal from Speirs and two goals by Diego Alvarez-Segee 39 seconds apart. Speirs would assist on the third goal of the day by Manny Alvarez-Segee with 26 seconds left in the first half to extend the Dean advantage to 12-1 heading into halftime.

The Bulldogs maintained their offensive pressure as Brine and Speirs scored 43 seconds apart early in the third quarter. With 6:10 remaining in the period, Klein earned his second goal of the match, but Dean responded with goals by Speirs and Will Brooks just six seconds apart, with Manny Alvarez-Segee assisting on both tallies. Joseph Marra scored with just over one minute left in the period to give the Bulldogs a 17-2 advantage.

Marra scored again 40 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Klein would complete his hat trick just about three minutes later. After a goal by Brooks, the Pride would earn the final five goals of the match, starting with tallies from Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) and Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) 43 seconds apart. After assisting on Marsella's second goal of the match, Jaynes would pick up his second goal of the day before Matt Cabassa (Weymouth, Mass.) closed out the scoring 27 seconds later.

Regis College (5-4, 1-4 GNAC) hosts defending GNAC champion Emmanuel College Wednesday, April 10, starting at 6 p.m.
