Pride Men’s Lacrosse Stays Competitive in GNAC Match

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College attempted to rally back from an early deficit, but Anna Maria College was able to maintain its momentum for a 15-5 victory Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Connor Deveau (Harwichport, Mass.) scored twice to lead the Pride, with Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.), and Liam Donovan (Lynn, Mass.) earning one goal apiece. Aidan Martin (Cutuchogue, N.Y.) paced the Regis defense with eight groundballs and five caused turnovers, and Nick Penta (Cotuit, Mass.) collected 13 saves during the evening.

Nick Massaro assisted on the first goal of the match by Quinn Hannagan 42 seconds into the contest, and then he scored his own goal less than two minutes later. Cook scored with 10:39 left in the first quarter to cut the Anna Maria lead in half, but the AMCATS pulled away by scoring five goals over the last four minutes of the period, with Massaro assisting on four of them to become Anna Maria's all-time assist leader.

Five different Anna Maria players scored in the second period to extend the visitors' lead to 12-1 at halftime. Zachary Boyd scored an unassisted goal early in the third quarter before Marsella earned his tally off an assist by Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.). In the fourth quarter, Boyd and Malik Pina scored goals 38 seconds apart, but the Pride battled back with the last three goals of the match, two of them by Deveau.

Griffin Moore started in net for the AMCATS and made three saves in close to 52 minutes of action before Jonathan Adamczyk took over for the final 8:10 of the match. Massaro finished with two goals and six assists while Hannagan and Boyd each notched a hat trick for Anna Maria. Nathan Powers collected 17 groundballs as he went 21-for-24 on faceoffs.

Regis (2-10, 0-7 GNAC) heads to Northfield, Vt., to face Norwich University Saturday, April 16, beginning at 3 p.m. Anna Maria (5-7, 3-3 GNAC) hosts Johnson and Wales University Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
