Men’s Lacrosse Falls in GNAC Road Contest

STANDISH, Maine – Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College, 22-2, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match at the SJC Turf Field.

Saint Joseph's (3-8, 1-3 GNAC) jumped on the board less than two minutes into the match as Calvin Heline scored off an assist by Max Lacy. Lacy scored an unassisted goal five minutes later and then set up Heline again with three minutes left in the first quarter to extend the Monk lead to 3-0.

Just 51 seconds after Heline's second goal of the match, Timothy Goodfellow picked up an unassisted tally to close out the scoring in the first period. The second quarter featured five more goals by Saint Joseph's, including the third time Lacy found Heline for a goal as well as two goals by Goodfellow six seconds apart.

The Monks picked up five goals in the third quarter, led by two goals apiece from Goodfellow and Nathan Varle. The Pride finally broke through on the scoreboard midway through the fourth period thanks to a goal by Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.), with Blake Hiltz (Tewksbury, Mass.) also scoring an unassisted goal late in regulation.

Nick Penta (Cotuit, Mass.) posted a new career high with 21 saves, including 12 saves in the first quarter to try and keep the match close, while Aidan Martin (Cutchogue, N.Y.) led the Pride with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. For the Monks, Brannon Gilbert made three saves in the first half and Ryan Boutiette collected five saves in the second half.

Regis (2-8, 0-5 GNAC) heads to Franklin, Mass., to face Dean College Saturday, Apr. 9, starting at 12 p.m. The Pride will then host Anna Maria College on Military Appreciation Night next Wednesday, Apr. 13, beginning at 7 p.m.
