Men’s Lacrosse Loses GNAC Road Contest

NASHUA, N.H. – Regis College lost to Rivier University, 14-1, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match at Joanne Merrill Field.

Rivier (6-2, 2-1 GNAC) opened the scoring 43 seconds into the match when Michael Ference scored off an assist from Coby Mercier. After a goal by Jeffrey Potter increased the Raider lead to 2-0, Connor Deveau (Harwich, Mass.) collected an unassisted tally midway through the first period to bring the Pride back within one.

Late in the first quarter, the Raiders scored twice in the span of 51 seconds to bring a 4-1 lead into the second period. Rivier would score five goals in both the second and third quarters while not allowing the Pride to score the rest of the night.

Connor Eck led the Raiders with four goals, Ference ended up with a hat trick, and Mercier finished with one goal and three assists. Dylan Fonseca continually provided Rivier with possession as he went 10-for-11 on faceoffs and collected seven groundballs, while Cole Perreault finished with six groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Nick Penta (Cotuit, Mass.) played the entire match in net for the Pride, earning 18 saves during the match. Sawyer Gagnon needed to make just one save in three quarters of action before he was replaced in net for the fourth period, with Samuel Tibbetts and Ryan Palmer each making one save for the Raiders.

Regis College (2-6, 0-3 GNAC) hosts Albertus Magnus Saturday, April 2, starting at 12 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
