Senior Spotlight – Men’s Lacrosse

We at GoRegisPride.com are in the midst of recognizing the Regis College seniors in men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field. These articles will be posted close to the date of the respective teams' scheduled senior ceremonies.

The Regis College men's lacrosse team would like to honor three student-athletes as they prepare to graduate from the University. Jesse Bedon (Wallingford, Conn.) and Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) have been with the lacrosse program for four years, helping the Pride win the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship. Paul Brennan (Rumford, R.I.) joined the team for the 2018-19 campaign and has been on the squad in each of the past two seasons.

JESSE BEDON

Jesse has appeared in 32 matches during his Regis career, starting with his freshman year when he played in six contests, including in the NECC Tournament semifinal against Mitchell College. He scored his first career goal during his sophomore season against UMass Boston March 22, 2018. As a junior, Jesse collected three goals and two assists along with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers. This past season, he picked up an assist and two ground balls in each Regis victory over Thomas College and Mitchell College. Jesse is about to complete his bachelor's degree in political science and the pre-dental track.

Head Coach Matthew Sweeney on Jesse: "Jesse has demonstrated an incredible amount of resilience and passion in his career on the men's lacrosse team. He pushes himself and his teammates to get better each and every chance he gets. This level of competitiveness has not only helped him develop but also pushed the team to reach new heights."

PAUL BRENNAN

Paul started his collegiate career with the Regis swimming and diving team, competing for the Pride in the pool for three seasons. As a sophomore, he finished third in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 50 backstroke at the GNAC Championships, plus he was an All-NEISDA honoree after helping his squad finish fourth in the 200 freestyle relay at the 2018 NEISDA Championships. He began his Regis lacrosse career as a junior, scoring a goal in his first collegiate match to help the Pride defeat Mitchell College March 13, 2019. This past season, Paul saw action in both Pride victories. He is completing the pre-law program as he earns his bachelor's degree.

Coach Sweeney on Paul: "Paul has been a consistent example of positivity during his time on the men's lacrosse team. His hard-working attitude has allowed him to constantly improve his game. More importantly, he has relentlessly supported his teammates. He has provided tremendous encouragement and enthusiasm, and his impact has been felt by teammates and coaches alike."

BRIAN WAGNER

Brian appeared in 44 matches during his collegiate career, including 16 starts. As a freshman, he played in 15 matches, finishing with two goals and 15 assists for 17 total points along with 38 ground balls and 50 faceoff wins. He was selected as Regis' representative on the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team. Brian earned 31 total points in both his sophomore and junior seasons, entering the starting lineup at the start of the 2019 campaign. A team captain for the second straight year, he started the 2020 season with two goals and three assists at Maine Maritime before picking up three points in each of Regis' two victories. Brian, an Academic All-GNAC honoree, will graduate with a degree in business management.

Coach Sweeney on Brian: "Brian has been instrumental in setting the standard for what it is to be a Regis men's lacrosse player. His work on the field is only outdone by his efforts off the field. He has represented Regis College on service trips, served as an orientation leader, and mentored his peers as an academic tutor. He has been a captain of the lacrosse team for the past two years, using his leadership ability to help put the program on a track for future success."

The Regis College men's lacrosse team posted a 2-1 record before the rest of the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
