Men’s Lacrosse Honor Seniors, Fall to Norwich

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's lacrosse team celebrated their four seniors in a pregame ceremony before dropping a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup to Norwich, 16-1.

Seniors Andrew Cook (Bedford, Mass.), Zach Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.), Michael Tremblay (Arlington, Mass.), and George Nicolopoulos (Windham, N.H.) played all four years of their collegiate careers for the Pride and were acknowledged in front of their friends and family members.

Leighton scored the only Pride goal of the match, and Nicolopoulos finished with four ground balls to pace the team.  Logan Bateman (Claremont, N.H.) recorded two caused turnovers on the day.

In the first quarter, the Cadets' Cody Moore was on the receiving end of a pass from Jack Anzalone that Moore directed into the back of the net.  Aidan Moulton would score 48 seconds later to increase the Norwich lead to two. William Conroy scored for the Cadets with 9:09 remaining in the first quarter off a feed from Moulton.  The Cadets scored seven goals in the first quarter while shutting out the Pride for a 7-0 lead.

After adding five more goals in the second quarter, the third started with Moulton taking advantage of a man up opportunity to record his second goal and third point of the day.

With the Pride trailing 16-0 in the fourth quarter, Leighton fired a shot that went by the goalkeeper to put the Pride up on the scoreboard.

Regis converted 19 of their 21 clearance attempts (90.5%) and Norwich cleared 19 of their attempts as well. The Pride took 9 of the 19 faceoff attempts while Norwich took the slight advantage winning 10.

Norwich (7-4, 5-1 GNAC) will play on Wednesday, Apr. 17, against Castleton before playing Emmanuel in their next GNAC contest on Saturday, Apr. 20.

Regis (3-6, 0-6 GNAC) will be off until Tuesday, Apr. 16, when they travel to Johnson & Wales (RI) at 7 p.m. They then play the following Tuesday, Apr. 23, to round out the regular season at Regis Stadium when they face Rivier in a 7 p.m. matchup.
