Men's Lacrosse Falls To Johnson & Wales (RI) On Senior Day

WESTON, Mass.Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) scored five goals, Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) added four more but it wasn't enough to overcome a large first-half deficit as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales (RI) 23-11 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday at Regis Stadium.

The game was Senior Day for Spillane, Rancano, Josh Bazail (Miami, Fla.) and Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) who were honored with a short ceremony prior to the game.

For JWU (6-10, 5-3 GNAC), Max Stone (Burlington, Conn.) led all goal scorers, putting six past Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) who played all 60 minutes for the Pride (3-11, 1-7 GNAC) and made five saves while dealing with 28 Wildcat shots. Thomas Lyons (Burlington, Mass.) and Jacob deMay (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) each added four goals with Eric Russo (West Grove, Pa.) scoring three and posting three assists.

Stone scored all six of his goals in the first half, including the first three of the second quarter to help JWU to a 10-2 lead with 8:07 to play in the first half. Rancano scored with under a minute to play in the second quarter but Ben Farrell's (Baltimore, Md.) goal with 13 seconds remaining gave JWU a 16-3 halftime lead.

Rancano scored three in the final period but the lead had swelled to 15 goals which proved to be too tall of an order for a Pride comeback.

Bradley Morris (Bayport, N.Y.) posted nine saves for JWU before being spelled in the fourth quarter by Brent Petrowski (Lakeville, Mass.).

Regis closes the regular season this Wednesday, Apr. 25 at home versus Albertus Magnus with JWU doing the same with a visit to Mount Ida.
