WESTON, Mass. - Senior Colin Hinrichs (Greenwich, Conn.) scored 2:49 into the first overtime period as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-10 overtime defeat to Dean College in both teams' season openers in non-conference action at Regis Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Pride drops to 0-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs move to 1-0.

Dean jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Anthony Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.), Hinrichs, and Brody Fredericks (Weare, N.H.) scored in the opening 6:21 of the contest to put the visitors on top. Pride seniors Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) and Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) responded with goals of their own for the hosts, as the first quarter ended with the Pride trailing 3-2.

Spillane would add his second goal of the game 4:31 into the second quarter to level up the score, but a goal from Trasacco would again put the Bulldogs ahead exactly a minute later. Sophomore midfielder Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) scored in the second quarter for the Pride as well, but the hosts went to the break trailing by a score of 6-4.

Fredericks would give the Bulldogs their biggest lead of the afternoon by completing a hat trick 4:52 into the fourth quarter and giving Dean a 10-6 lead, but the Pride would quickly battle back. Goals by freshman Brent Young (Feeding Hills, Mass.), Spillane, and senior Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) cut the deficit to 10-9 with 3:27 to play, and the comeback was completed by the first career goal by freshman Michael Daras (Danvers, Mass.), evening the score with 2:41 left and eventually sending the game to overtime.

At the 2:49 mark of the extra session, Dean senior James Lovely (Hopedale, Mass.) sent a centering pass from the right side of the box towards Hinrichs. The pass was deflected slightly by the stick of a Regis defender, and Hinrichs was only able to get the frame of his stick on the ball, but the ball would nonetheless ricochet past the scrambling Regis goalkeeper Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) and into the net for the game winner. The goal was Hinrichs' fourth of the game.

Also adding four goals was the Pride's Spillane on the afternoon, leading the Pride. Fredericks and Trasacco both had hat tricks for the Bulldogs, while the Pride's Brault had two goals and Rancano and Wagner both tallied a goal and two assists.

Dean sophomore goalkeeper had an astounding 18 saves in the win for the Bulldogs on the afternoon, while Penta picked up the loss with five saves in just under 33 minutes of action. Fellow rookie JJ LaRose (Litchfield, Mass.) got the start for the Pride in goal, recording two first half saves.

Next up for the Pride, they'll look for their first win of the season by traveling to Becker on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Dean hosts its home opener the same day as Wentworth comes to town for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff.
