Men's Lacrosse Edges Daniel Webster In NECC Opener

WESTON, Mass.Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) and AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) each scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to help the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over Daniel Webster, Tuesday at Regis Stadium in the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both teams.

Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) and Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also tallied two goals for the Pride with Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.) adding a team-high two assists. Tre Mason (Kelowna, B.C.) scored a game-high three goals for the Eagles (3-5, 0-1 NECC).

Pride goalie D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.) posted six saves on the afternoon with James Bushey (Hamden, Conn.) tallying 10 saves in net for the Eagles.

Regis (2-7, 1-0 NECC) led early but had to hold off the Eagles late to secure the win. The Pride scored the game's first four goals all in the first five minutes but with only two goals in the second half, would have to rely on its defense to get the win.

The Pride looked prime to run away with the contest with four goals in the first five minutes. Rancano assisted Karofsky on the first goal of the game, then added two more in the early spurt including a spinning move into the crease for the fourth goal.

The Eagles would stem the tide with two goals to slice the lead in half but the Pride still carried a 7-2 advantage into halftime. The third quarter saw Daniel Webster come roaring back, holding Regis to only one goal in the period then scoring early in the fourth quarter to shave the Pride lead to just 8-7. Tanner Todd (Henderson, Nev.) scored and assisted on another pair of goals during the run.

Both teams would each add another goal but that would be it for the offenses as Barrile and the Pride defense came alive to secure the one-goal win.

Regis retakes the field on Thursday, Apr. 6 hosting Saint Joseph's (ME) for a 7:00 p.m. start time. Daniel Webster next visits Mitchell Saturday, Apr. 8 for an 8:00 p.m. face off.
