Men's Lacrosse Upended at Johnson & Wales (RI)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) scored four goals, Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added three more but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales (RI) 17-9.

The Wildcats outscored visiting Regis, 8-3, in the second half on their way to the victory.

Of Note:

The third of Danny Rancano's team-high four goals got the Pride within 8-6 with three minutes remaining in the first half. On the ensuing faceoff, Hunter Guzzo (Wantage, NJ) won the draw and marched right down the field to score a goal and send JWU into the half with a 9-6 lead.

Junior Eric Russo (West Grove, Pa.) handed out three of his game-high five assists in the third quarter as the Wildcats opened up a 13-6 advantage. Erik Lindaas (Milford, Pa.) scored both of his goals and Max Stone (Burlington, Conn.) tallied the final of his game-high five goals during the quarter. Stone added three assists for a career-high eight points.

Sam Sears (Baltimore, Md.) helped shut the door on Regis in the fourth quarter as he scored two of his four goals, including his scored at the 10:04 mark that opened up a 16-8 lead.

Johnson & Wales kept the pressure on the whole game by outshooting the Pride, 60-23. JWU also had a 17-11 advantage in faceoffs as well as 35-15 on ground balls. Russo and Ben Farrell (Downingtown, Pa.) tied for the game-high with six grounds balls.

Regis next plays tomorrow against Daniel Webster at 4:00 p.m. with the Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Anna Maria at 7 p.m.
