Men's Lax Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker to Norwich

WESTON, Mass. - Norwich sophomore Connor Loughran (Stowe, Vt.) scored with 1:35 remaining in the second overtime on Saturday afternoon as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team fell 10-9 to the Cadets in non-conference action at Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Cadets improve to 2-4 on the young season, while the Pride drops to 1-5.

Loughran's game-winner capped a four-goal afternoon for the sophomore, tied with teammate Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) for the game-high.

The Pride opened the scoring on the afternoon, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on goals from seniors Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.). The Pride couldn't maintain the lead however, as goals from Jenkins and Connor Bourque (Goffstown, N.H.) in the final 1:55 of the quarter evened the score for the Cadets. The second quarter score mirrored the first quarter, and the teams went to the break tied at four.

Regis senior defender Colby Connell (Warwick, R.I.) opened the second half scoring with his first collegiate goal at the 9:19 mark of the third quarter. After splitting the next two goals to give the Pride a 6-5 lead, the Cadets answered by scoring three straight goals to take an 8-6 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

After AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) and Connell added goals to tie the score with 3:26 to go, the Pride regained the lead on Mehler's third goal of the game with 33 seconds left. The Cadets refused to back down however, as the fourth goal of the game from Jenkins with 16 seconds remaining forced overtime, where the Cadets prevailed.

Pride goalkeeper D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.) made 18 saves in the losing effort for the Pride and was credited with the loss. Tyler LoPorto (Weston, Fla.) earned the win after turning away nine Pride shots.

Next up for the Pride, they will host Rivier in a future GNAC matchup on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Regis Stadium. The Cadets will return to action on Monday afternoon, hosting Plymouth State at 4:00 p.m.
