Men’s Lacrosse Edged By SUNY Poly In Season Opener

WESTON, Mass.AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I) scored four goals, D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.) tallied 19 saves but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team gave up a pair of late goals to drop its season opener to SUNY Poly 14-12, Saturday at Regis Stadium.

The Pride (0-1) led much of the way in what proved to be a gorgeous midday match on the Regis College campus. Alex Ferran's goal with 2:07 left in the third period put Regis up 10-7 for its largest lead of the game. Connor Elsenbeck (Clinton, N.Y.), who had a game-high five goals, responded for the Wildcats (0-1) putting a shot past Barrile at the end of the period and another to start the fourth to tie the score at 10-10.

The game would go back and forth in the fourth quarter with Karofsky giving the lead back to the Pride with a goal early in the period. Karofsky tied the game inside of three minutes to play, but Elsenbeck's goal with 23 seconds remaining proved to be the game winner.

Ferran (Miami, Fla.), Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.), Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) and Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each tallied two goals for the Pride who lost the turnover battle 17-7. Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.) added three for SUNY Poly.

Regis next takes the field Tuesday, Mar. 4th at Dean with SUNY Poly next in action at Oswego State on Friday, Mar. 3rd
