BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team persevered through rainy and windy conditions to an 18-6 win Saturday afternoon over Regis College.
Strong wind gusts and a concurrent rain made playing conditions difficult for both teams, as both the Hawks and the Pride slipped across the wet field.
Kirby Sundquist (Concord, Mass.) started things off with a goal for Roger Williams 1:52 into the game to put RWU on top 1-0. Drew Beck (Duxbury, Mass.) would add another score at the 9:52 mark of the first quarter.
Bradford Hastings (Mansfield, Mass.) cut the Pride deficit to one with a goal for Regis with 7:19 left to play in the period, but the Hawks would close out the quarter with three straight scores, one by Beck and two by Todd Carson (Pennington, N.J.).
In the second period, Hastings netted his second score of the game for Regis at the 11:29 mark before Justin Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.), Carson, and Jackson Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) added three more for the Hawks to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.
The third period saw a scoring frenzy, as both teams combined for 11 goals in the period, eight by the Hawks and three for the Pride. John Basbas (Framingham, Mass.) scored a pair for Regis in the period while Leddy accounted for three goals in the quarter, all of them scored consecutively.
The final period saw Leddy notch his fifth score of the game at the 13:52 mark, followed by an unassisted tally by Matt Malloy (Saugus, Mass.) for Regis. Jared Crockett (Londonderry, N.H.) concluded the scoring with the Hawks' final goal of the day with 6:55 left to play.
Tom Hardon (Devon, Pa.) picked up his first win of the season in goal, allowing five goals while making four saves. Leddy finished with seven points on five goals and two assists. Carson added four goals with Beck and Crocket scoring two each.
Tyler Beyor (Carthage, N.Y.) took the loss for Regis, allowing ten goals on the day with seven saves. Hastings netted a hat trick for the Pride with three goals scored, while Basbas had two scores and Malloy one. Stephan Bottex (Norwood, Mass.) had the lone assist for Regis.
Roger Williams (8-7) closes out the regular season Tuesday at home with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game against #9-ranked Trinity College. Regis (3-6) travels to Mass. Maritime for an 8:00 p.m. game.
