PRIDE FALLS TO MARINER RALLY 5-4

Weston,Mass.—The Regis College men's lacrosse team was  defeated by Mitchell College Wednesday (Apr. 20) by the score of 5-4. The Pride moves to 3-5 overall on the season. The visiting Mariners move to 8-3 overall on the season.

The Pride took the first lead of the game when freshman Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass./Catholic Memorial) converted on a fast break pass from Andrew Goldberg (Solebury, PA/New Hope) to go up 1-0. The Pride continued to groove on offense taking the second goal of the game when John Basbas (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) found the back of the net on a direct pass from Bradford Hastings (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield).  This goal put the Pride up 2-0 in the first quarter. 

The Mariners battled back in the second quarter under the keen shooting skills of Evan Spera (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) who found top corner off a pass from Demetre Lyras (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point).  The Pride answered the Mariners attack with a goal from Hasting to put the Pride up 3-1 at halftime.

The Mariners rattled off three unanswered goals in the second half to take away the Pride's lead.  Josh Charles (Westerly, R.I./Forman School) started things off by scoring late in the third quarter. Adam Grillo (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and Lyras chipped in with one goal apiece to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Mariners.

The Pride turned things around late in the fourth quarter when Matt Vogan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) was able to score a man-up goal on a pass from Hastings. This play evened the score at four a piece with 3:13 left in the fourth quarter.  The Mariners scored the go ahead goal from Shane Sullivan (Quaker Hill, Conn./Waterford) who scored with 45 seconds left in the game to put the Mariners up 5-4.  The Pride rallied for the last two shots of the game,but was uneventful at finding the back of the next.

Both teams had excellent play from their respective goal keepers. The Pride's Tyler Beyor (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) tallied 15 saves on the game. While the Mariners Peter Eshenfelder (Quaker Hill, Conn./Waterford) tallied a team high of 16 saves in the game.

The Pride's next matchup is Saturday (Apr. 23) against Roger Williams University.

The Mariners next matchup is Wednesday (Apr. 27) against Rivier College.
