Regis Men's Basketball Drops Home Contest to Albertus Magnus

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College battled Albertus Magnus College, but the Falcons held off the Pride for an 88-72 victory Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at Higgins Court.

Zakaria Latifi (Holliston, Mass.) earned 13 points with four rebounds and two assists. Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) and Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) also had 13 points each, while Rau also accumulated eight rebounds. Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) earned 12 points and tied his career high of three-pointers, earning four this game.

Although Regis started with a 2-0 lead after a layup from Wilkins, the Falcons applied offensive pressure and created momentum for a 8-0 scoring run. The Pride responded with a three-point jump shot from Rau and four three-pointers from Brynda in the first half, but could not hold on as the Falcons had consecutive free throws from Avery Hinnant and layups from Antonio Bonilla. The Falcons finished the first half with a 42-34 lead.

The Pride closed the 10-point deficit to eight points just after a foul on Justice Washington led to two made free throws from Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) early in the second half. The Falcons held onto the advantage, adding some insurance with a three-point jump shot from Deivone Tanksley. From there, Albertus had a 6-0 scoring run just before the Pride scored the final basket of the game, creating the final score of 88-72.

Washington led the Falcons with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Bonilla collected 18 points with seven rebounds.

The Pride (11-12, 6-6 GNAC) are set to travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday, Feb. 13, with a start time of 7:30 p.m. The Falcons (20-4, 12-1 GNAC) are scheduled to host New England College Saturday, Feb. 17, at 3:00 p.m.
