Cam Wilkins Caps Strong Performances with GNAC Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – Regis College freshman guard Cam Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday by the league office.

Wilkins made significant contributions during the past week for Regis, averaging 17.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 71.4 percent (15-for-21) from the floor. Last Wednesday at Lasell, he shot 6-of-8 from the field on his way to a 15-point performance.

Saturday against Emmanuel, one of the top teams in the GNAC, he led the Pride with 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting, to go with five rebounds. It is his second-highest scoring output of the season and the first time he has reached double figures in consecutive games since a stretch of four straight games with 10 or more points from Nov. 26 through Dec. 4.

For the season, Wilkins is shooting 64.6 percent from the field as he is averaging 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He has reached double figures in scoring nine times this season, including a season-high 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line against Framingham State Nov. 26.

Wilkins received his first GNAC Rookie of the Week award Dec. 2 partially due to the Framingham State game, with his second honor this season coming Jan. 6. EJ Day of Lasell is this week's GNAC Player of the Week after averaging 37.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game to lead the Lasers to two wins, keeping Lasell tied for the lead in the GNAC regular season standings.

Regis (6-13, 2-4 GNAC) steps out of conference to face Connecticut College on the road Tuesday, Feb. 4, starting at 7 p.m. The Pride will play their final five games of the regular season within the league, starting Saturday, Feb. 8, at Norwich with a 3 p.m. scheduled tipoff.
